Parent Guidelines & Child Wellness

Essential information for parents regarding neonatal intensive care protocols, pediatric admissions, infection prevention, immunization schedules, and emergency warning signs.

When to Seek Immediate Emergency Medical Care

Bring your infant or child immediately to Hanumant Hospital's 24x7 Pediatric Emergency desk if you observe any of the following critical warning signs:

Severe breathing difficulty or rapid chest retractions
High persistent fever with convulsions or stiff neck
Extreme lethargy, unresponsiveness, or floppy limbs
Persistent vomiting with severe dehydration (no wet diapers)

NICU & Newborn Protocols

  • Wash hands thoroughly up to elbows with antiseptic soap and put on sterile gowns prior to entering the NICU.
  • Only parents are allowed visiting privileges inside the NICU to maintain aseptic conditions for vulnerable babies.
  • Mothers are encouraged to provide Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) under clinical supervision once infant is stable.

Immunization Schedules

  • Adhere strictly to the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) immunization timetable without unadvised postponements.
  • Always carry your child's physical vaccination booklet during every hospital consultation.
  • Inform the pediatrician if your child had an allergic reaction or excessive irritability after previous doses.

Safe Medication Practices

  • Always use calibrated measuring droppers or oral syringes provided with pediatric syrups, never household spoons.
  • Complete prescribed antibiotic courses fully, even if fever abates, to prevent resistant bacterial recurrences.
  • Never administer adult over-the-counter medications or aspirin to infants and young children.

Infant Nutrition & Weaning

  • Exclusive breastfeeding is strongly recommended for the first 6 months of life.
  • Introduce freshly prepared, hygienic complementary solid foods gradually starting at 6 months.
  • During diarrhea episodes, maintain adequate hydration with Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and zinc supplements.

Ward Hygiene & Visiting

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted as visitors in critical inpatient zones for safety reasons.
  • Only one primary caregiver is permitted to stay overnight with pediatric inpatients.
  • Sanitize your hands whenever entering or leaving patient rooms.

Consultation Preparation

  • Write down temperature readings, timeline of symptoms, and diaper counts before seeing the doctor.
  • Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled OPD appointment to allow nursing measurement of weight and vitals.
  • Bring an extra set of clothes, favorite comfort toy, and baby formula/milk if applicable.
